Dr Hisham S. Bassiouny is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery (USA) and a member of many surgical societies in the US and internationally.
After graduation from Cairo University Medical School in Egypt, he completed his general and vascular surgery training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and the University of Chicago. Dr Bassiouny joined the faculty at the University of Chicago in 1987 until 2011 where he was appointed Professor and Chief of the Section of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, Director of the Non Invasive Vascular Lab at the University of Chicago, and Program Director of the Vascular training fellowship. He returned to Egypt in 2011 as Chief of the Vascular Department at Dar Al Fouad Hospital in 6th of October City, Egypt and a visiting vascular surgeon consultant to Maadi and International Medical Center military institutions.
Dr Bassiouny has more that 100 peer reviewed publications and books and is recognized internationally for his contributions to the field of Vascular. He has received several National Institute of Health and American Heart Association (USA) awards to investigate mechanisms in atherosclerosis and vascular scarring after treatment of artery blockages with stents and surgery. His philosophy and interests include:
1. Providing the patient with the most advanced minimally invasive and surgical options to achieve the most durable results with the least risk. A patient centered care approach.
2. His major clinical interests include Aortic Aneurysms in the abdomen and chest, Aortic Dissections, Carotid Artery Disease and Stroke, blockage of branches to kidney, intestines and lower extremities and varicose veins.
